Homage to Balasingh.

Marthandam born Balasingh was a natural actor especially in playing negative roles. He came to Tamil Cinema with Nasser's Avadharam as Baasi, after doing about five Malayalam films.Perhaps his closeness to the Kerala soil got him the introduction into the Big screen. He was specially identifiable by his bold voice mould and clear delivery of dialogues. As a negative politician and as a corrupt government official he was neatly compact in form and spirit. Altogether,he would have acted in nearly a hundred films and a few television serials.
Besides his most memorable first film Avadharam, some of his films that would haunt audience memory are  Mammootty's Marumalarchi,Vikram's Ullaasam,Saami and Bheema,Vijay's Madhurey and Vettaikkaaran,Ajith's Raasi,Dheena,Ananda Poongaatre, Thirupathi and Gireedam and Kamal's Indian,Nala Dhamayandhi and Virumandi. His other notable entries are Dhaya,Udhaya,Rendu, Pudhupettai,Jigardhanda,Thambi Arjuna, and Thambi Vattothi Sundaram{as Paaku Paramasivam}.
Balasingh's sober looks and bald headed physical profile gave him the most desirable appearance for playing negative roles and his calculated but ever open voice modulation, put him at an advantageous position,to deliver villain/supporting roles, with valour and vibration. He was an actor in the line of the late Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani,to grab the audience mood with vigour and velocity in reflecting the strength of an antagonist.
It is very rare these days for second line villain-cum-supporting actors to cast an impression of individuality and power of performance. Balasingh would stay remembered by Tamil cinema audience as one of its most talented faces,to look back and admire.
