The compatibility between voice and music is a symbol of harmony between the body and soul. Many voices in many languages have eased human ears with the ecstasy and empathy of music. However, rarely do we come across voices that vanquish the listeners through a vibrant intoxicating mode and keep the ears compactly contained through a mesmerizing spell. It is one such voice, that ruled Hindi cinema for decades and conquered other language zones with an equal amount of fascinating felicity. It is the voice of Asha Bhosle the younger sibling of the late nightingale Lata Mangeshkar. The passing away of Asha Bhosle yesterday, will mark numerous decades of memories of her voice that would grandly occupy the musical gallery of Indian cinema, besides Bollywood.
Among the 12000 plus songs that Asha Bhosle sang, there are three scintillating numbers from Tamil films, that will eternally enthuse the music lovers in Tamil Nadu. "Shenbagame Shenbaghame"from Enga Oooru Paattukkaaran for which Ilayarja composed music,"September Madham" from Alai Paayudhe composed by A.R.Rehaman and "Konja Neram Konji pesa Koodaadha" from Chandramuki sung with Madhu Bala krishnan) tuned by Vidhyasagar have taken Asha Bhosle closer to the hearts of the Tamil soil. She has also sung for other Tamil films like Meera,Heh Ram and Kizhakku Vasal.
This blogger is not a regular viewer of Hindi films. But songs like "Gun Guna Rahe Hai Bhanvare" {sun with Mohammed Rafi in Aradhana}"Chura liya hai tumne jo dil ko". {sung with Rafi Yadon Ki Baaraat}"Dum Maro Dum" {Hare Rama Hare Krishna} are always the immortal numbers that would have taken the human ears across the world, to the height of fantasy and glory.
Beyond the numbers in terms of songs and the languages that adorned those songs, it is the value of the voice that sustains the might of music, intoxicating the listeners with unending sweetness and incomparable innate charm. It is the voice synthesis of a unique kind, that has surpassed the identity of languages, and made music transcend the linguistic, regional, and global barriers,to knock at the international doors of distinct soils. Her soul is bound to rest in peace forever in the lap of God.
