Drishyam 2 | |

Very rarely do film sequels carry over the substance of grandeur of their precursors.Tamil sequels like Sami 2 and Sandakozhi 2 made us really long for their first parts. But in that way Drishyam 2 is a far better sequel, compactly knitting the threads of continuity in narration, without compromising the logical sequence of events, besides bringing into focus all the relevant actors in their respective roles as naturally as possible.
No doubt Drishyam 1 was more gripping in its narration because it contained the genesis of an enforced act of crime to be ethically suppressed by the head of a family,to save his wife and daughters.George Kutty {Mohanlal}calmy took up the onus of hiding the crime by carefully and cleverly contriving each and every course of escape mode, with systematic post retrieval precautions. With action packed police investigation and crowded neighbourhood coming to the support of George Kutty's family, Drishyam was a new cinematic dimension of the crime thriller genre. So everyone would have loved to watch it as the rush of a stream without ripples.
It is very difficult to tell a crime tale with poise and perfect sync with reality. It is here Jithu Joseph scored not only in Drishyam but also scores it in its sequel. Here an act of crime goes undetected because the killers are not criminals.Crime and punishment are not only legal issues but are also made up of ethical layers focused on the original crime. As the person accidentally killed was the real criminal,George Kutty's attempts at destroying all the pieces of evidence of the accidental crime one by one, become an escapalogist's struggle to ease out himself from the ropes of suspicion one after the other.
As Mohanlal is capable of breathing through the lungs of any character,he just dissipates into George Kutty.Family niceties,George Kutty's elder daughter's trauma,a couple of twists born of the police brain, the fascinating premonition of the anticipated course of events through a film project promoted by George Kutty with screen writer Vinaya Chandran,{Sai Kumar is a sweet addition in this role}and above all the much unexpected amazing climax make Drishyam 2 a rare sequel, not spoiling the quality of its precursor though not outshining it in its over all presentation. When many sequels have awfully failed to sustain the glory of their precursors,Jeethu Joseph can lift his collars and say ''I've done it".
