{Homage to Sarath Babu}
An actor is remembered not only for how he looks,but also for how he works.The charisma of an actor is carried on by his looks,voice and winning way of role play.Sarath Babu who is no more today,is one among such rare actors of South Indian cinema.With his prolific contribution to Telugu and Tamil cinema,he has considerably made his indelible marks on the Kannada and Malayalam big screens also.
Sarath Babu was introduced into Tamil cinema by none other than veteran film maker K.Balachander in his well known film Pattina Pravesam.After that,he went on to act in films like Nizhal Nijamaagiradhu,Ninaithale Inikkum, Uyirullavarai {Maro Charithra}Nool Veli, Netrikan and 47 Naatkal directed by K.Bala chander and later in K.B's home production films such as,Velaikaaran,Annamalai and Muthu directed by S.P.Muthuraman,Suresh Krishna and K.S.Ravikumar respectively.Sarath Babu was equally lucky to act in ace director J.Magendran's highly credited movies like Nenjathai Killaadhe,Udhiri Pookal,Mullum Malarum and Azhagiya Kanne.In'Uthiri Pookal' he breezily gave his lip movements for the mesmerizing song 'Senthaazham Poovil' vibrantly sung by K.J.Yesudas.Similarly,he had the good fortune of playing a significant role as Kamalahasan's bosome friend in late K.Viswa nath's critically acclaimed film Salangai Oli.He had also done a meaty role in Manirathnam's Pagal Nilavu.
The other popular films of the late actor are Thisai Maariya Paravaigal,Nadhiyai Thedi vandha Kadal, Ucha Kattam,Sattam,Captain, Vedan,Puthiya Geethai Otran,Arul,Perarasu, Gajendra and a few major films with Sivaji Ganesan such as Sandhippu,Theerpu, Ezhuthaadha Sattangal and the immortal Keezh Vaanam Sivakkum.
All these films brought out the suave,stylish, delicate and delightful acting touches of this highly commendable,multi lingual actor.He never failed to make a memorable mark in roles relating to estranged friendship and enchanting reunion with those misunderstood friends.This was the high water mark of his singular acting mode, in films like Velaikaaran,Sattam, Annamalai and Muthu.The last two films were his special entries,in association with the super star besides Velaikaaran.
What had always been attracting the audience was Sarath Babu's excellently elegant face, supported by an enticing voice,loaded with subtle and graceful notes of vibration that gave his profile an absolute masculine touch, dignifying his over all performance pattern, from Pattina Pravesam toVasantha Mullai. None of the audience would ever shirk the temptation to have a second look at him,be it his stills or his animated persona {personae}as a pretty performing actor.
Sarath Babu's rapport with fellow actors was in an endearing frame,with roaring rivalry and rejocing gusto of love.His unruffled demeanour in delivering his role even in ticklish and entangled contexts in Pattina Pravesam and Keezh Vaanam Sivakkum, as a betrayer of love,would speak a lot about his vibrant perception of characters on hand.He would surpass the entanglement with casual submission and captivating underplay.On the whole,the entire South Indian Cinema has lost an eternal chocolate boy,with his vast,winning vibrations.
