It is really an immense pleasure to watch Amitabh Bachchan on the Tamil big screen with his solidly gruffy voice, genuinely {AI} dubbed. In a calm and dignified role, this tall Indian actor has been made to sermonize against cop encounters, denying the rightful place for the wrongly accused, and rejecting a fair chance for them,to defend themselves. while the wealthy wrong doers, are conveniently bailed out by the flow of money. The sermonizing tone of Amitabh gives the film a sublime touch.
Rajinikanth IPS as SP Adhiyan and hunter of confirmed criminals, raises the storm for the screen play, with his much familiar style and sterling vigour, unmindful of the age factor. The super star and the Tamil film industry owe a lot to music director Deva, for gaining the conventional Rajini spark,to most of his films after Baasha, when the title shows his name. T.J. Gnanavel has set a subdued tone frame for the delivery of dialogues wherever the controlled tone adds sense and sensibility to the dialogue factor. Rajinikanth's refrain that his aim never misses the prey, adds pep to the encounter factor. But when the encounter theory misfires at a particular point, the reversal of the encounter process begins, giving a cathartic touch with the dialogue that an encounter should never stink like a murder. Despite ageing Rajini is Rajini and that is why he is on the higher pedestal as the Super Star.
Smelling the flavour of tea before showing his face, Fahadh Faasil as battery Patrick, spreads breezy fragrance throughout the film, and it is he who provides the lighter moments for a film without any comedy flair. Nimble and naughty, Fassil stays as an endearing element of the film, gently touching feminine attitudes of the women he comes upon, with his fair and fine flattery. Faasil will be greatly remembered for his butterfly roleplay in the film.
Manju Warrier as Thara Adhiyan, is fascinating in the 'Manasilaayo' dance sequence and then goes behind the charm, with least make up manual and does a neat role.Dushara Vijayan as Saranya teacher whose role forms part of the main theme of the film, gives a very convincing role play. Ritikha Singh as ASP, Rohini as DSP, Indian Economic Service, and Abhirami are the other notable women participants in the film. The victim tone of Saranya's mother {Remya Suresh} makes an agonizing cry for justice. Kishore and Rana Dhaggubati as cop and vllain respectively, are the other two notable characters of the film.Asal Kollar as Guna needs a special mention,
Anirudh is in his consummate form, as the music marvel of Vettaiyyan with his most captivating "Manasilaayo" and a couple of interlude songs both with energy and melody. Even the music blended with the scenic course of events is absolutely under instrumental control.
Vettaiiyyan being a commercial hit on the commercialization of education, especially on the perilous entrance exam scam-related coaching centres, T.J. Gnanavel seems to have taken the back seat, letting Rajini take the lead, along with Fassil. But for Rajini and Fassil,Vettaiyan would have become a flop. But still it is certainly a fall for T.J Gnanavel, who has jumped from the top depiction of a gripping real-life event in Jai Bhim,to a usual cinematic version of a cop and action thriller form. The end of the film shows Rajinikanth joining the sermonizing session of Amitabh, against pointless encounters, creating the pointed observation that "justice hurried is justice buried".
