Creativity of Telugu and Kannada cinema has enriched the Tamil film industry since its inception, through several mythological tales and family dramas. Film makers like A.Bhimsingh, B.R.Panthulu, P.Pullaiah, L.V.Prasad,Dasari Yoganand,Vedantam Raagavayya,T.Prakash Rao, K.S.Prakash Rao and a few others have made their memorable and meaty contribution to Tamil cinema. In this list Singeedham Srinivasa Rao who was born in a Kannada Madhav family in Udhayagiri,Gudur {formerly a part of Nellore district} gave wholesome and invaluable entertainment, as well as qualitative film-watching experience to film lovers, in all South Indian languages. Besides he has also made some Hindi and a couple of English films.
After making his first Telugu film Neeti Nijayiti, Rao got the national award for best film, for his Tamil film Dikkatra Parvadhi, [which was his second film} starring Lakshmi and Srikanth. The film was based on a novel bearing the same title, written by Mr. C.Rajagopalachari. His most interesting black comedy film Pushpaka Vimana, was made without dialogues and released in all South Indian Languages, and in Tamil it came as Pesum Padam. The movie with Kamalahasan as hero. made the film a visual treat, and a major credit for its success goes to Kamal, for his most impressive facial expressions, and body language.
Srinivasa Rao frequently collaborated with the Kannada mega star Rajkumar and with Kamalahasan, the all-rounder of the celluloid world. With Kamalahasan, in addition to Pesum Padam, he directed exuberant films like Raja Paarvai, Abhoorva Sagodhararkal, Michaal Madhana Kamarajan, Kadhala Kadhala and Magalir Mattum, {in which Kamal did a cameo role}.The other Tamil films of this great creator are Chinna Vaadhiyaar, Little John [made in Hindi &English} and Mumbai Express, made in Tamil and Hindi. The single Malayalam film made by him was Niraparayum Nilavilakkum.
Every film maker has a kind of genre working in their mind. Singeedham Srinivasa Rao might have had soothing thoughts and life's lighter moments travelling within his mind frame round the clock. Films like Abhoorva Ragangal,Michael Madhana Kamarajan and Kadhalaa Kaadhalaa will be time and again tickling and touching audience memories, with an exemplary sense of humour and extraordinary sentimental thrust as witnessed in a couple scenes in Abhoorva Sagothararkal and vividly, in Dikkatra Parvadhi. Crazy Mohan's time sticking dialogues {excluding Dikkatra Paravadhi and Raja Paarvai} with his inherent word sense, generating spontaneous laughter, helped a lot, in making all these films, robust entertainers.
Indian cinema today, is deprived of a creative genius whose passing away leaves a lot of indelible notes of how cinema could ease straining minds and exalt them into a world of enchantment and uninhibited joy. The audience will bid goodbye to this congenial film maker, with magnificent scenes of his films performing eternal miracles in their minds, day in, and day out. Gods will have a nice time with this new admission of a hilarious soul, into the celestial world. Cinema lovers will endlessly cheer up with his enlivening entertainment slots.
