Homage to playback singer Uma Ramanan.

Lending her glorious voice for nearly a hundred Tamil films,Uma Ramanan who breathed her last, made herself a memorable asset to Tamil film music. It was a voice with full throated ease that made her songs inerasable from the memories of film goers and music lovers. Her loss creates an unfathomable grief to the lovers of Tamil Cinema's most cherished solo and duet songs.

Starting from Shree Krishna Leela(1977) her scintillating musical rendition, occupied the audio field of Tamil cinema for almost three decades. Her all time special numbers are Poongkadhave Thaal Thiravaai( Nizhalkal) Annanda Raagam(Panneer Pushpangal)Aarum Adhu Aazgamille (Muthal Vasantham)Pon Maane Kovam Yeno(Oru Kaidhiyin Diary) Boopaalam Isaiakkum poomagal Oorvalam (Thooral Ninnu Pochu)Nee Paadhi Naan Paadhi{Keladi Kanmani}Manjal Veyil Maalai (Nandu)Megam Karukkaiyile (Vaidhehi Kaathirundhaal)Yelelam kuyile Elamara veyile (Paandi Naattu Thangam) Kasthuri Maane (Puthumai Penn)Sri Renga renga naadhanai (Mahanadhi) and Kannum Kannundhaan Serndhaachu (Thiruppaachi). There are many more of this kind.

Uma Ramanan's voice carried the clarity &sweetness of P.Susheela and the sharpness of Vani Jeyaram.Uma Ramanan and her husband   A.V.Ramanan were in fact an enchanting musical couple underutilized by Tamil Cinema. In the midst of ever-growing competition, not all playback singers get their deserving place. But as the saying goes, small is always compact and commanding. In this aspect, the nightingale voice of Uma Ramanan will stay immortal in the annals of Tamil Cinema's musical elegance.
