The immortal legacy of Tamil cinema. {Homage to AVM Saravanan}

      In the absence of renowned film studios like AVM and GeminiTamil cinema would have moved to the tail end. In other words, the glory of Tamil Cinema is nothing but a consequence of the existence of such founding, fore runners of Tamil cinema.The studio of A.V Meyappa Chetttiar was born in 1945 after succeeding a couple of business ventures like Saraswathi Sound Productions,a gramaphone manufacture and sale unit and Pragathi Studios that came out,with the famous hit Nandakumar, starring T.R.Mahalingam,a fourteen year old boy then.The commendable films released during this period include Sababadhi, En Manaivi and Sri Valli.

 When the AVM studio was established it 1945, a long list of unforgettable hits like Naam Iruvar,Vedhala Ulagam,Vaazkai,the superhit film Parasathi,and other remarkable entries like Kula Dheivam,Thilagam, Chella Pillai, Kalathur Kannama,Dheiva Piravi,Paava Mannippu,Pachai Vilakku,Server Sundaram, Naanum Oru Penn, Kaakkum Karangal, Kuzhandhaiyum Dheivamum Major Chandra kanth, Annai, Annaiyum Pithaavum, Baabu.Anbe Vaa, Raamu,Adhe Kangal and Uyarndha Manidhan which were all amazing films, that added a lot of pride and power to Tamil cinema.

 A.V.Meyyappa Chettiyaar's family was as much large, as his contribution to Tamil cinema. Of his eleven children AVM Saravanan alias Saravanan Surya Mani and M.Balasubramanyan have continued the legacy of Tamil Cinema.Of the two AVM Saravanan passed away on 4th Dec 2025,at the age of 85.Saravanan who stepped into the film field in the early sixties, became a vital part of the national award winning film Naanum Oru Penn and later for Visu's renowned film Samsaaram Adhu Minsaaram which also won the National film award.

 AVM Saravanan continued to retain the grandeur of the brand name AVM,as the most entertaining and dignified film production house.It was this epoch-making film producer the son of the illustrious A.V.Meyyappa Chettiyar,who made Rajinikanth into an outstanding star of Tamil cinems through the film Murattu Kaalai directed by S.P.Muthur aman.Saravanan continued to make Rajinikanth stick to the Tamil cinema base, through memorable films like Pokkiri Raja,Payum Puli,Nallavanukku Nallavan.Raja Chinna Roja,Mr.Bharath,Ejaman and Sivaji.

  After Kalathur Kannamma,and Paarthaal Pasitheerum,the AVM banner inducted Kamalahasan in the Silver Jubilee hit Sakalakalaa Valaaban.Thoongaadhe Thambi Thoongaadhe Per Sollum Pillai.and Uyarndha Ullam were the other AVM films starring Kamalahasan.The other well known AVM films are Mella Thirandhadhu Kadhavu,{starring Mohan} Dharma Dhevadhai Managara Kaaval,Sethupathi IPS {all Vijayakanth films} Mundhanai Mudichu {K.Bagyaraj}Paati Sollai Thattadhe,(Pandia Rajan) Minsaara Kanavu,(Prabhu Deva) Thirupathi,{Ajith}Ayan {Surya}and Vettaikaaran {Vijay}.

   Films under the AVM banner never disappointed the audience in terms of action quotient,emotional content,thematic value, decent dialogue component, impressive grasp of character evolution by actors,a compact mix of humour and pathos and clean narration of the cinematic course of events. AVM is not just a film family but they are also makers of family-oriented cinema exalting the minds of the viewers and never pulling down the ethical side of human routine.

  Itis in this particular aspect this biggest film making industry withstood the test of time amidst very many challenges in making quality-oriented films. Tamil cinema is bound to keep in its archives not only the brand name AVM,but also its unswerving promoters as father and sons .So long Tamil cinema lives, the name AVM Saravanan will also stay in the minds of film lovers, as the immortal legacy of inspiring celluloid model. Long live the memory of AVM Saravanan.
